He taught after fifteen years as a musician in the Indian Navy and ten years as an assistant music teacher at the British School Muscat. Lessons stay small: posture, a song you can play at home, and ABRSM or Trinity pieces when you want grades.

Four instruments share a fretboard language. The strings, neck, and first month of practice are different. Try them on the shop floor, then we set the path.

Steel strings and a hollow body. This is the guitar most beginners pick up first.
You play with a pick or your fingers. The sound comes from the top wood, so you can practise at home without an amp. We start with open chords, two strumming patterns, and a film or folk song in G or C. After a month you should change between G, C, D, and Em without stopping the beat.

Nylon strings, a wider neck, and the right hand only. No pick.
The strings are softer on the fingers and quieter in a flat. We teach rest stroke and free stroke, then a short prelude you can play sitting upright with the guitar on the left leg. This path fits ABRSM or Trinity classical grades when you want exam pieces and scales built into the week.

Pickups and a small practice amp. Same left-hand shapes as acoustic, different right-hand feel.
Once open chords sit, we add power chords, a palm-muted riff, and a clean tone versus a light overdrive. Bring a practice amp if you have one; otherwise we use a store combo at a neighbour-friendly volume. The first electric month is one song you can plug in and play through.

Four thicker strings. You lock the groove with the drummer instead of strumming chords.
Most students start on a four-string bass tuned E, A, D, G. The first month is open-string pulse, simple roots under a chord, and playing with a metronome so the notes sit on the beat. Adults who find a six-string stretch hard often settle here. We can show student basses on the shop floor before you buy.
